Woolacombe SLSC Annual Presentations
Woolacombe SLSC held their annual presentation ceremonies on Saturday. The Junior section had their trophies and certificates presented at Twitchen Holiday Park by their sponsor, Glenn Harris of Surfed Out.
Jim Middlemass was awarded the Club Person of the Year, Fay Mills won the Junior Lifesaver of the Year award and Annie Challacombe won the Most Improved Junior Lifesaver award.
The following members have also achieved their NARS Bronze Beach Cross this year and were presented with their certificates:
Robert Lewis, Alex Mooney, Sam Middlemass, Jimmy Manley, Daniel Shapland, Brandon Lark, Brady Saunders, Tom Popham, Mark Turner, Katy Devine, Fay Mills, Alice Hedger, Becky Marks, Zara Turner, Jasmin Liddell, Katie Oakley and Kathleen Spears.
The Nippers held their annual Mill Rock Run race along Woolacombe beach followed by presentations, an end of season party and a game of ten pin bowling at their sponsors venue at the Golden Coast Holiday Park .
The Nippers were awarded plaques and certificates to celebrate a very successful season where they finished as National Champions in the British Still Water Life Saving Championships, 3 rd place in the British Surf Life Saving Championships and Devon Champions in both the Still Water and Surf Life Saving Championships.
Katie Oakley was awarded the David Smith award for her contributions to the club throughout her six years as a nipper. Nicholas Bull received the Limpet of the Year award. The Mill Rock Run winners were: U13 Brandon Lark, U12 Sean Deasy, U11 Freddie Hedger, U10 Jack Popham, U9 Debbie Saunders, U8 Ryan Lark. First U7 home was Ross Oliver.
Any children who are interested in having a good time on the beach while learning valuable life saving and beach awareness skills are welcome to join us. We resume training indoors in early November. If you are interested ring Carolyn on 01271 375618.

The second Surfed Out Taw Triple produced some great races in tricky conditions. The experience Andy Byatt from Perrantporth led from start to finish in the men's open, bagging a new record time of 32:39 mins he was followed home by younger Jimmy Manley from woolacombe.
Claire McHugh from Woolacombe to the open ladies title. It was a much closer race in the girls youth catorgery where Woolacombe Fay Mills was chased down into second place by Southerndown Rhiane Thomas who put in a tremendous ski leg to pip Fay by 11 secs and set a new ladies record of 46:35 in the process. Woolacombe Luke Penman won the boys youth. In the Masters 40+ Woolacombe showed strength in depth with a one two three. Richard Lark took the honours, he had a poor swim but, made up time on the run before edging out Doug Penman on the ski leg.
Nick Oliver from Woolacombe won the ladies 40+ Tracy Lark 2nd. In the Masters 30+ 10 times Great Britain Captain Simon Lawrence from Perranporth took Gold, whilst debutant Georgie Redrup from Woolacombe won the 30+. It was a good race with good results because of the conditions of rough water on the river due to it being very windy!!
